Join the artists that inspired a nation by creating your own art inspired by theirs

Painting for Peace: A Coloring Book for All Ages available at select St. Louis events starting May 24, 2016

Painting for Peace: A Coloring Book for All Ages written by Carol Swartout Klein and illustrated by Robert O’Neil will be available at select events around St. Louis, MO beginning May 24, 2016 and nationally beginning early June. The 52-page Painting for Peace coloring book, published by Treehouse Publishing Group, will be at retailers across the US and on Amazon in paperback for $9.95. Designed for all ages with a range of designs from simple to elaborate, this unique coloring book was created as the logical next step after the award-winning best selling children’s storybook Painting for Peace in Ferguson was published in 2015. The original storybook highlights the hundreds of remarkable and colorful street murals that were created in Ferguson through the Paint for Peace effort as the community began to heal after months of unrest. The coloring book allows coloring fans to create their own art inspired by those original paintings that inspired a nation. More than 20 of the drawings are based on those hopeful murals in addition to new original drawings by illustrator Robert O’ Neil.

Some distinctive features of this coloring book include the use of quality paper and only one drawing per page eliminating issues of colors bleeding through; a binding that allows the book to lay flat making it easy to color for both lefties and righties and designs that range from simple to more complex allowing adults and children to color together or giving a variety of options for the individual user. The book also features moving and emotional behind-the-scene stories from several artists featured in the book about their experiences in the original Paint for Peace effort in Ferguson and south St. Louis. Both the stories and the artwork allow children and adults to talk about the messages and the spirit behind the art as they color together. Profits from Painting for Peace will be donated to youth, art and educational organizations and small business recovery in Ferguson, Missouri and the surrounding communities.

“For more than a year, Ferguson has inspired artists across the nation through film, photography, plays, books, music, protest art, paintings and more,” Klein said. “Painting for Peace: A Coloring Book is another example that allows people to create their own art inspired by the art in Ferguson.”
